SONGWILDING

With Særa Fiøra

A thunder swept the valley

it sauntered by the stream

and you wondered with the mountain

as the restive desert dreamed

and I noticed you longing
so I thought I would ask
what keeps you my darling
from the way of your path?

-The Wind Calls You Home

Dark Green Foliage

A song is a living thing.

SongWilding is an approach to songwriting that understands human creativity as an emergent and collaborative process.

Rather than working with formulas or preconceived ideas, we create through opening and attunement - to place, memory, emotion, imagination, sound, and the living world around us - and hold space for the song to form. We then bring technique & structure to what emerges so that those energetics can be transmitted to others.

The song becomes alive through the world, through you.

The SongWilding Workshop

The SongWilding workshop introduces a relational, intuitive approach to songwriting. This does not mean writing about nature - it means writing with her.

  • Introduction to SongWilding - how and why it works, what makes it different, misconceptions and mistakes to avoid.

  • Live atmospheric soundscape with field recordings to inspire creative energy

  • Guided writing prompts

  • Lyrical guidance - discernment, technique, play

  • Songwriting techniques, song arcs, structuring and giving shape to emergent material

  • A supportive, open-minded environment

No songwriting experience is required.

The Philosophy

The modern world often teaches us to produce. To look at a blank page and make something happen. To come up with a great idea. To write something catchy, something people will like.

Songwilding throws all of that out and invites us to listen. To become attentive to the stories and poetry murmured by landscapes, creatures, memories, emotions, and imagination. To recognize creativity as participation in a living world rather than production.
